Improving Access to Education and Employment Syrian Refugees and IDP's.
In partnership with Islamic Solidarity Fund, Sheikh Abdullah Al Nouri Charity Society and SPARK, the Islamic Development Bank will provide skills enhancement, entrepreneurship support and MSME financing that support private sector growth and boost job creation.
Objectives
This programme seeks to enhance access to vocational education and training for IDPs (internally displaced people) inside Syria; provide access to vocational education and training for Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and KRG-Iraq; and empower Syrian students to find or create jobs through entrepreneurship and business skilling for employment.
Targeting 2010 young Syrian refugees and IDPs, the programme provides quality education -- scholarships for higher educational and vocational degrees, technical diplomas, and short courses; and economic empowerment and entrepreneurship support -- entrepreneurship training, coaching and financing support to SMEs, soft and technical skill training, and internships and employment opportunities.
Main Activities
The project will provide 300 students inside Syria with one-year vocational education and training. The project will also assess and build the capacities of 10 local Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions and local Syrian NGOs and CSOs inside and outside Syria; it will design an online interactive platform featuring resource knowledge and training materials on vocational skills and entrepreneurship. Finally, it will conduct an online publicity campaign that specifically targets Syrian youth and stakeholders in the region, to promote the activities.
Expected Results
The programme will enhance the capacities of 10 TVET institutions and local CSOs in the region with a view to provide education opportunities for some 1500 Syrians, IDPs and refugees, building their skills and preparing them for the labour market. In particular, 460 students will be matched to internships/jobs opportunities, while 115 Syrian refugees will be provided with access to finance for their start-up entreprises, reaching a total of 575 individuals. In addition, digital tools will be used strategically to enhance the beneficiaries’ access to the programme.
