The project aims to support the country’s effort in controlling the spread of Avian Influenza epidemic and help Egypt transform from an importer to a manufacturer of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Vaccine.
The total project cost is US$ 24.87 million and IsDB contribution is US$ 20.00 million. The scope of the project contains (i) constructing a modern 500-bed hospital; (ii) acquisition of medical equipment and furniture; (iii) consultancy services for supervision of civil works and medical equipment; (iv) project financial audit; and (v) setting up a Project Management Unit (PMU) and supporting its operations.
The expected results from the project are:
- Two world-class Vaccines Production Facilities established with a total capacity of more than 300 million doses.
- 240,565,500 Avian Influenza vaccine doses produced and availed for in-country market
- Vaccine cold value chain enhanced through renovation and equipping of four central cooling units (27 refrigerated long vehicles)
- Communications and Networking between reporting entities enhanced through procurement of 19 pickup vehicles and 178 computers
- Veterinaries capacities enhanced through 25 training sessions that benefited 326 veternarians.
